Memory for Real-World Scenes: The Role of Consistency With Schema Expectation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study tested the generalizability of the consistency effect to real-world settings. The consistency effect refers to the finding that items inconsistent with expectations are better recalled and recognized than items consistent with expectations. In two experiments, subjects walked into a graduate student's office or a preschool classroom. Half of the items in each setting were consistent with expectations about that setting, and half were inconsistent. A recall and a samechanged recognition memory test followed immediately or 1 day later. In both experiments, the consistency effect was affirmed; items inconsistent with expectations were significantly better recalled and recognized than items consistent with expectations. This result is discussed in terms of differences in the encoding processes that operate on inconsistent and consistent items. The present study extends the generalizability of results from picture memory studies to real-world settings.

Prioritizing new objects for eye fixation in real-world scenes: Effects of object–scene consistency
Recent research suggests that new objects appearing in real-world scenes are prioritized for eye fixations and by inference, for attentional processing. We examined whether semantic consistency modulates the degree to which new objects appearing in a scene are prioritized for viewing. New objects were added to photographs of real-world scenes during a fixation (new object with transient onset) ...

Multiple people detection and tracking is a challenging task in real-world crowded scenes. In this paper, we have presented an online multiple people tracking-by-detection approach with a single camera. We have detected objects with deformable part models and a visual background extractor. In the tracking phase we have used a combination of support vector machine (SVM) person-specific classifie...
متن کاملThe Influence of Schematic Knowledge on Contradictory versus Additive Misinformation: False Memory for Typical and Atypical Items
In the current study, we examined the influence of schema consistency on contradictory and additive misinformation. Sixty-four participants were shown a series of still photographs of common scenes (e.g., a kitchen), were later exposed to narratives containing misinformation, and were then tested on their memory of the photographic scenes. In addition, participants were asked to reflect on thei...
متن کاملPrefixational Object Perception in Scenes: Objects Popping Out of Schemas
Semantic influences of context on the ease of object identification in real-world scenes are commonly accepted, but when eye movements are taken into account the unanimity dwindles. The question is whether object-in-scene semantics only come into play when the object is foveated or already have an impact during extrafoveal, prefixational object processing, and if so, whether semantic consistenc...

Introduction: Today, attention to the family and its role in the establishment of a healthy society has been given more attention by psychologists and researchers. One of the most important issues in couple adjustment is alexithymia. Therefore, the aim of the present study is prediction of couple adjustment based on disconnection and rejection schema with the Mediation of alexithymia an in marr...
